David Schubert (1913-1946) received early support from Robert Frost while at Amherst College. His brilliant, subversive poems were introduced in the New Directions 5 Young American Poets in 1941 , and only after he died was his small body of work gathered in published volumes (Initial A, Macmillan,1961; Works and Days, QRL, 1983).
