They can't say her name. She can't say what she wants.
Navy feels invisible: her life has already been mapped out by her ambitious, loving Indian parents, while at school she's often mistaken for one of her two best friends - also from immigrant 'brown' families. As the exams for the local selective school approach, and the pressure builds on all sides, fault lines start to appear in the girls' friendships. When a new fascination with art history leads her to reflect on her identity and where she belongs, Navy starts to question everything she thought was important.
An emotionally engrossing, coming-of-age story about a teen girl navigating parental and cultural expectations.
