Many European academics have been publishing articles and studies related to the teaching of secular ethics (morality) in schools. This is a larger work - a book - that attempts to relate what the teaching of morality could look like in American schools and for U.S. adults. In the book, I establish the idea that the U.S. democracy should be based on a "family" model, because families have a combination of a common morality (civil morality), some individual wealth, and some commonwealth. I do not mean a family like a monarchy - we must always have term limits for our leaders, including the President, Representatives, Senators, and the members of the Supreme Court. Rather, the family represents a sociological model in nature to base a democracy upon. The book is largely a study of the "civil morality" portion of the family plan for democracy, and how a secular morality could be taught in schools and to the general population based on the moral character traits of "positive psychology." Positive psychology was developed by psychiatrists through studies to establish secular moral character traits so people could live ethically, thrive, and become economically stable. These positive psychology moral character traits also can be used as a lens to examine the historical development of human rights laws in the United States. These human rights laws do, in fact, represent a type of "code of ethics" for the United States. The United States must not turn its back on the progress we were making in human rights laws now. To do so would not be ethical, according to the moral character traits of positive psychology. The "civil morality" taught to Americans should never pick one religion as the state religion. The civil morality should rather be based on the idea that "all cultures and people are created equal." Enjoy the book.
