Captain James B. Bryant, U.S. Navy (Ret.), served on three Thresher-class submarines including commanding the USS Guardfish (SSN-612). Bryant began researching the Thresher sinking in 2017. In April 2019, Bryant filed suit against the Navy to gain access to records classified for more than a half-century after the sinking of USS Thresher. He has written several articles on the Thresher disaster for Proceedings magazine.
