There is not a single nation in the world that can compete with Egypt in the interconnectedness of the eras of its history. We can trace the development of historical events and their cultural progression throughout forty centuries without interrupting in our hands the links of the chain that begins in early times and progresses over the years, sometimes flourishing and other times faltering. And it ends in the end with a bitter conclusion, but it was the conclusion of a struggling people who lived for long centuries in which they fully fulfilled their duty as a free and independent people...the ending that was imposed on them by the Persian people when Cambyses entered the land of Egypt and robbed its people of their independence in 525 BC.
