Two night owls who have been friends since childhood, reconnect and share an apartment overlooking the Vancouver skyline. Rita plies her trade out of a swanky nightclub, while Cole, a bisexual cab driver, ferries the drunk and the dispossessed around the slick neon streets. Violence is not uncommon in either profession, so it isn't long before the bodies of random acquaintances show up dead, in what could be a maniac's killing spree. There is tension between the main characters, the police, various ethnic groups, gays of all stripes, and a handful of rival factions who are out to control the lucrative transportation industry that the busy seaport generates. When Rita disappears, Cole conducts his own investigation, playing footsie with the police, and ends up bringing murderous violence closer to home than he intended.
