Melissa didn't mix much with people in Alice Springs. Living on a remote station with her father, her opportunities were limited. She'd made most of her friends while attending boarding school and they all lived in Sydney. Reserved or aloof? The town couldn't decide. It was easier for them just to ignore her.

Her passion was photography, but that didn't meet her father's expectations. She had always known that one day she would marry neighbor, Alex Woodleigh, but for now the bright lights and the camera lens held greater sway.
