The Affordable Inventions in MedTech Fellowship was conceptualised as a research program to create a database of unmet clinical needs in India. The objective was to share these needs with innovators in an effort to influence indigenous, affordable innovation. This was possible thanks to a generous grant by The Lemelson Foundation and was conducted in partnership with InnAccel Technologies.
Multidisciplinary teams including doctors, engineers, product designers and PhDs, spent 18 months immersed in four therapy areas: Critical Care, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Neurology & Neurosurgery and Minimal Invasive Surgery. The immersion took place over a large geographical area with 40+ healthcare centers covered, including primary, secondary and tertiary, across 9 states in India.
Each need identified went through rigorous filtering process and the top 10 needs were converted into detailed need specification documents. This book highlights the entire process followed the top 10 needs in each therapy area and key insights that would be useful to any healthcare innovator.
